OK, so I totally forgot to get a picture without any hat - again. Oh well, you can imagine.
Wearing a basic blue beret, this is a great winter outfit. A classic belted trench with pumps and a cute winter hat. One of my favorite winter outfits.
Then with a quick rolling up of my hair, and a change of hats...
...you get a VERY vintage WAAC outfit. I love wearing this, only when I fell OK with being stared at all day. I love the style, the billfold cap, the trench, the look of the shoes. (After walking in them for a day, I wondered why on earth I ever bought them - they are neither comfortable nor practical!) But I also love thrilling old ladies' souls. Old ladies who actually served in WW2 come up to me and are so pumped to see the clothes they used to wear still being worn. One dear old lady was talking to her son, behind me (I think she thought I couldn't hear) and she was almost ecstatic "she's got the hair, and the hat, and the shoes - she even has the right makeup!!" :) I've also startled people who thought I was a manikin when I got up and walked away when they came to examine the chair I was sitting on. :P Poor woman nearly had a heart attack!
I put the whole outfit together for the first time this past summer. Our head cook at camp was a retired CAF pilot and he said everything was great, except I needed BRIGHT red lipstick. So I went out and got a stick of fire-engine red. I'm wearing it in the winter pictures, but I didn't have it this August when these two pictures were taken. In August I had even taken the time to rag roll my hair before I put it up, so it is even more accurate.
I'm wearing: Vintage 1940s dress (I got it at a clothing exchange, actually vintage, hand made!! :D) Vintage 1940s Red Cross ladies' billfold cap (antique store $5!)
Summer Pictures
Blue cardigan (gift), white knee socks (the most expensive part of the outfit $8), white flats (thrifted, $1)
Winter Pictures
Blue wool beret (Sears clearance $3), Air force issue winter trench coat (gift), Vintage "fully formed nylon stockings" (thrifted $0.25), vintage-looking brown pumps (Walmart $5), Black belt (I forget)
